UK Food and Drink Export Opportunities on the Rise in Non-EU Countries

A recent report released from The Food and Drink Federation provided useful highlights about how exports to non-EU countries have seen an increased demand on the first half 2021. These highlights show Central and South America as the leading expanding export markets, with Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, and Chile topping the ranks in the region.
The products which have seen most increase in exports from the UK are whisky +117.7% to Mexico, gin +110% to Brazil, oats +2034.6% to Colombia and animal oils to Chile +227% in the Q1 2021.
The North West Region saw an increase of 7% to the overall exports to LATAC in the first quarter of 2021 compared to 2020, and of 81% growth related to food & live animals, beverage & tobacco and animal & vegetable oils, fats and waxes, which seems in line with the Food and Drink Federation report in terms of increased demand.
The general exports from the UK into the EU dropped significantly in the first half of 2021: -35% in Spain, Germany -35%, Portugal -47%. France, on the other hand, has seen an increase of 14%. The impact is due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and the new trading relationship with the EU. This has opened up opportunities for non-EU country exports.
The UK is open to continuing to improve deals with Non-EU countries, particularly with tariff rates. This is a positive sign for UK companies who want to explore new markets and new customers.
Despite Chilean and Colombian political movements within the countries asking for social equality, there seems to be no affect on trade, deals and customer consumption.
